As I’ve mentioned before, I’m not a big makeup person. If I have to meet with someone during the day, I’ll brush on some mascara and dab on some lipstick (if I even remember to). I do, however, add a bit extra when going out, let’s say, on a date with my husband. What does that entail? Well, still not a lot. I don’t like the feeling of too much makeup on my skin. I like to let my pores breathe and I hate feeling sticky. Every time I’ve tried foundation, I’ve found it bothersome. I was even talked into having a tiny bit on my wedding day and I still felt like my face was plastic. Now, I’m not saying foundation is terrible and that women shouldn’t wear it. I think that women should wear what makes them feel comfortable. For me, that’s not putting on lots of make up. I’m very comfort oriented, and 90% of the time dress purely for comfort. The same goes for my face and feeling ‘free’. And when I do put on makeup, I only use certain things. So here are my makeup essentials.
Urban Decay Naked3 Eye Palette
Probably the best palette I’ve ever invested in. I really love the variety of shades it has to offer. It’s perfect for a light, understated look, or for a more dramatic eye. It’s smooth and soft, and the supplied brush is perfect for application. I just really love this palette. It’s also the softest of the 3 I’ve seen and the pinkish tones suit me better than the darker and bluer tones. You can easily create a so many various looks with this palette, so it is the only one that travels with me.
I am not complicated about mascara. Honestly. It’s one of the least complicated things in my set. I go for more natural mascaras and I’m not a fan of waterproof (I don’t like to fight with washing my makeup out at the end of the day). Out of a whole lineup of mascaras, I will usually pick the thinnest, smallest brush. I don’t need volume for my eyes, I just need color, as my eyelashes are a very light brown and hard to see. All I’m looking for is to add a little bit of black or dark brown to them and go. Oh and of course, without all the goop.
Mary Kay powder
This is a new one for me. As I mentioned, I don’t do foundations. I generally don’t like anything that covers most of my face. But this is some miracle stuff my friend recommended to me. So I tried it, bought it and kept it. The powder is very very light, so it doesn’t feel like anything is really on my skin. I also don’t use it everywhere, just on red spots, which are generally my cheeks. It doesn’t turn my skin into a different color, just reduces the amount of red and pink that sometimes appears on your face. This is a perfect base before I add blush to the cheekbones.
I love blush. I’m a fan of accentuating my cheekbones and adding a bit of depth to my face. I’ve tried blush in orange and pinkier shades, but none of them work for me as well as the darker, plum shades do. Trial and error. I just add on a bit right under my cheek bone and I’m good to go.
Mac matte lipstick. What is there not to love? I like various lipstick colors, nude, dark reds, purples. But none match my go-to lipstick like this one. It’s perfect enough to be visible, but not obtrusive. It is very soft and understated, giving you a classic clean look. I would wear this all day if I had a reason to.
Mary Kay Concealer
This I only use sometimes. And by sometimes, I mean when there’s a big red spot on my face. I am lucky enough to have smooth skin 99% of the time (check out what oils I use to keep my skin healthy and smooth), so there’s not much for me to conceal. However, sometimes it’s a must when there’s that little pimple sticking out and driving you nuts. Another use for this concealer, I’ve learned, is to apply it to your lips before you put on lipstick. This helps nudes and pinkier colors become more vibrant. Just a little trick I’ve learned.
That’s All of My Makeup!
That’s it! Yes, it really is! I don’t like much more than that. Nor do I have the patience! On a regular day, if I go out and I’m feeling like it, I’ll slap on some mascara, blush and maybe lipstick. If I head out for a date, that’s when I’ll put on eyeshadow, powder and darker lipstick. I just prefer to create less hassle for myself.
If you have any recommendations for me about brands I should try or might like, don’t hesitate to write!
